Testimonials

Hi Gladys,

I am emailing to share with you just how pleased we all were with you (you never stopped checking in with us always making sure we were comfortable), your staff and your top notch facility. I must admit I was terrified walking into this whole thing, of course being that dad was coming to the end but knowing that he wasn’t going home and having to find a place for him – for a first timer like myself, it was foreign and overwhelming. Finding you all changed that as you made this experience as comfortable as could be and for that I am extremely grateful and thankful for.

I want to mention that each and every staff member we worked with was simple incredible.

Bruce, Richard and Tom took the time to explain all details during admissions – they were so very efficient, helpful understanding and genuine.

Nurse Melissa was on top of every moment – she addressed all our concerns and needs and for me, when I felt so helpless during much of this experience helped me understand what was going on and put things into perspective for me.

I want to recognize the other aids, nurses, social worker, etc:

Tina – fantastic!!! So helpful and genuine, Brigette, Morgan, Bobby, Ashely, Megan, Angie, …and the entire Hospice crew. Each and every one of them were again, so genuine, supportive, caring and available to help – I’ll never forget them. Please do send them our heartfelt thanks as they all, everyone deserves that.

For now, the healing process will take time – we’ll miss dad, remember the good times we all shared with him and never forget how his last days, albeit difficult, were the most comfortable they could be for him – thanks again to you all at Delmar Gardens West.

Bruce,

So many times, no matter how busy you were, you made an extra effort to go and see my mom to try to comfort and reassure her fears. You were there for her, holding her hand when she was in the hospital so many times. I am eternally grateful for the kindness and support you have given us. Thank you for being such an important part of our family.

Gladys,

Thank you so much for all you did for our Mom. You were a God-send from the minute she walked into Delmar Gardens West.

We also wanted you to know how much we appreciated every member of your Delmar Gardens West team. Without exception, every member of the entire staff was professional and caring and appreciated by us, and of course, our Mom. Gladys, the entire operation at Delmar Gardens reflect your amazing leadership, kindness, and spirit.

Please don’t hesitate to let us know if we can recommend Delmar Gardens West to future residents.

Dear Gladys, Richard, and the Delmar Gardens Staff,

Thank you so much for taking exceptional care of my father during his time at Delmar Gardens. It was very comforting knowing how well he was being taken care of in his final days.

Sincerely,

Family of a Dear Resident

Dear Staff and Friends of Delmar Gardens,

Thank you very much for the love and care you gave to my sister. You were all very kind and caring. My sister was a special person and wonderful caregiver. Nursing and caring for others was her passion. Many times she would say to me “If I cannot go home, I need to make this my home and they treat me like a princess.” No matter when we visited, you all were giving her great care.

She is now at home, free of pain and dancing with the angels.

God’s Blessing to you all,

Sister of Resident

Ms. Reeves,

I’m writing on behalf of myself and my four siblings to thank you for the incredible care my father received in the short time he was at your facility.  My father entered the rehabilitation division and proved to have some unique needs that made him require special care. Your staff quickly rose to the occasion and actually went above and beyond to ensure my father received quality care.  We especially want to recognize the nurses who went out of their way to provide care and comfort to my father who was traumatized by being at the facility.  As he sustained a brain injury he was very confused and needed extra reassurance.   We further want to recognize those who provided therapy for our father and acknowledge how they took the time to help us make tough decisions for future planning.  My father passed away.  We will miss him greatly but thanks to you and your staff, we are comforted to know that he received the best care the last week of his life.

With Sincere Thanks,

Daughter of Resident

Dear Richard,

I wanted to reach out to you on behalf of my family to thank you for the outstanding service my mother and her family received while a resident at your facility.

My mother was Diana and she had a brief stay prior to her surgery to remove a malignant brain tumor, then a 4 month stay after surgery until her death on 1/9/16.

This has been a trying time for my family. She was not young…75 years old.  But there was no indication at all whatsoever that something was so wrong with her health.  But I can tell you that having her at your facility helped so much to ease some of the pain and I will always have the great memories of the times my mother and I shared there.  I miss coming there an would look forward  to it every day.

Obviously, I would highly recommend your facility to anyone in need of skilled nursing or long term care.  You run a top notch operation there and we do so appreciate everything that was done for my mother and my family.

Sincerely,

Christina

My many thanks go out to all those on this list and those I might have forgotten.  All of your work in tandem to keep to keep the direction of the mission strong!  My heartfelt thanks to everyone who works there!

Salecia – I could depend on you for anything I needed!

Darlene & Jennifer – your attention and care are unsurpassed-you are the best!

Ty – physical therapist – you showed me what was creating the fall, something I was not told in over 16 years of therapy!

Kathy – speech therapist – you gave me ideas to keep my spirits up!

Vonda – always smiling when you gave me my bucket of pills!

Dwayne – very first person who showed me the good care at DG!

Julie – amazing, patient, talented and beautiful!

Rose – lovely nurse who came with the sweetest voice in the middle of the night to give me my shots!

Ashley – amazing vacumming person, always with a friendly smile!

Dawn – always helpful, not matter what!

Lisa G – super occupational therapist!

I am extremely grateful to you all!

Dear Delmar Gardens Staff,

Just wanted to take a moment to reflect on the time my mother spent at your home.  She loved her time there, the staff was just wonderful, her care was exceptional.  She loved the food!  My only wish is that she could have been there sooner.  She spoke very highly of her room mate, Mary.  They were like sisters.

Thank you all for everything you did for our mom!

Dear Richard and Staff of Delmar Gardens West,

Thank you so much for the care and compassion that was extended to Jerome D. during his time at Delmar Gardens West.  We are thankful that he received the best care during the most difficult period of his life.  The hospice care allowed him to pass away without pain and in peace.

We appreciate the kindness you extended to me and my son, Jerry, as well.  It made it easier for us to deal with the emotional time in our lives.

Sincerely,

Lois D.

Delmar Gardens Staff,

Just wanted to say thanks for all the wonderful and caring things you did for my mom, Rose A.

She was very comfortable there and I  always knew she was safe.  From Division 500 to Hospice, I always felt informed on how she was doing.

Words can’t express how much my family appreciated all you did for her.

Thanks!

Roseann H. and Family

To the manager and staff of Delmar Gardens West:

I just spent a week visiting my mother-in-law of 47 years in your clean, bright and cheerful facility.    I had the pleasure of attending several ice cream socials.  Afternoons can be long when PT is completed in the morning, and these events were welcome distractions for your residents.

Mostly, I want to tell you how impressed I was with the staff I met in my week in Missouri.  I’ve been a hospice home care volunteer for 22 years, and have spent time in various facilities in the Detroit Metro area.  I know that the loveliest facility is nothing without caring staff.

Thank you for making a difficult situation as pleasant as possible form any senior residents.

Sincerely,

Jane c

Dear Katie,

Thank you for the chocolate cake you supplied Betty and me last Wednesday at dinner.  Your thoughtfulness made our 59th wedding anniversary one to remember, at least for me.  As you know, Betty has dementia and her memory is facing with each passing day.

The entire staff at Delmar Gardens West have been very supportive and helpful, but you and Sean have been especially active in trying to get Betty to come out of her shell.  Of all the staff that comes in contact with Betty, you two are the only ones she knows by name which shows how much of an influence you have had on her.  I don’t know of anything that you haven’t done to try to get Betty to participate in the various activities.  Sadly, she has not responded during these 15 months that she has been at DGW.  My daughters and I want to thank you for all of your efforts on Betty’s behalf.  You have gone above and beyond what would normally be expected and we are very grateful to you for all you have done for Betty.

Thanks again for your thoughtfulness and all the help you have given to Betty.  You and Sean are in our thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Gene S.

Richard: Please see that this is given to all of the people who took care of my mom. You should be proud of all of them.

Thank you.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Delmar Gardens West for the kind and loving care you all gave my mom, Annabelle R. Each and every person in 400 and the staff downstairs (as my mom called it) deserves a thank you.

I’m a little nervous calling out names because I know I’ll leave someone out…but here goes…..

There was Judy, Sean, Grace, Stacy,

Kisha, Emily, Lisa, Beth, Joanne,Tina, Bruce, Laverne, Mike, Karen,

Makisha, Yolanda, La paris, Janine, Sandy, Max….a whole community of loving and special people. Some names escape me, like the lady that danced with my mom when she came in the room, the ladies from laundry, nails and supplies. That does not mean they count less.

Angie’s incredible kindness and skill were so apparent as she cared for mom the last few days…I’ll never forget her compassion and how she kept mom with her at the desk until it was no longer good for mom and then she put her to bed. I know I’m butchering the name of mom’s nurses aide, Makisha. She came in the room a few hours before mom died and asked if I was okay. When I said no, she gave me hug I’ll never forget.

But the person that tugs at my heart and my mom’s heart was Chalette.

She grounded mom, cared for her and made her feel that she was her only patient. She was always, patient, charming, gentle and understanding.

Mom thrived when Chalette was there and lonely when she wasn’t.

She worried about Chalette as much as she worried about me.

For me, Chalette, was a rock…I’ll never be able to thank her enough for the care she gave to both of us.

When my health became an issue, each of you understood that I couldn’t be there and comforted me by letting me know you would fill in for me. I knew mom would be taken of. You will never know how hearing…”it’s our job”, “take care of yourself” “we got it” meant to me and helped me through a difficult time.

Yoyo and Mike calmed me down in the middle of the night. Always checking on her one more time so I could get some sleep. When mom had but hours to live and I couldn’t be there the whole time, I knew it was okay. She had daughters and sons in each and everyone of you.

So I warned you that I would forget names but I will never forget how each and every person made my mom feel. I think you all know who you are….true angels doing what few people could ever handle.

From the bottom of my heart…thank you.

Love,
Jane T

Dear staff at Delmar Gardens West,

I speak for my whole family when I say we were so impressed with the level of professionalism and kindness our father/grandfather Ray S. received during the last few months of his life.  The care and compassion Ray and his loved ones were shown, was above and beyond our expectations.   From Ray’s nurse, Tracy to Pamela and even the Chef all showed grace and tenderness.  Every staff member we encountered surpassed our expectations.  They were a great support in our time of sorrow.  The staff truly cares for their patients and their families.

I can’t thank you enough for making a challenging time just a little less difficult.  The “Thank You” Veterans Service to honor Ray is one more example of the top notch caring and service at Delmar Gardens West.

Please share with all the wonderful staffs there.

Many wonderful thank you’s!

Delmar Gardens Family

How does one thank an organization like Delmar Gardens that has been part of our family’s lives for over 30 years.  My parents, Edward and Ruth G, lived in independent living and eventually skilled  are with people who were empathetic, compassionate, professional and loving.  Delmar always had their best interest at heart.

With mother’s recent transition, I’ve had time to reflect on all the loving people who were a part of my mom’s daily life.  People who cared about her, put up with her on her bad days and smiled with her on her good days.;.

People like:

Judy, who didn’t allow her to stay outside too long in the heat or too long on chilly days.

Cynthia and the kitchen staff, who made her “real oatmeal and not that instant stuff” and who provided “real donuts” on Sundays

Sue, who washed, cut and styled her hair so nicely

Anita, who gave her a monthly manicure and allowed her to enjoy picking out the right shade

Michael,  who drove her to her eye doctor appointments and chatted with her

Tamara, who gave her a kiss with her meds and located her bracelet when mom had placed it in another patient’s drawer

Denise and others in the laundry room, who washed her clothes and located lost items

Victoria, who took time to chat with me, trouble shoot if we had an issue and who helped my dad as a nurse in Division 4

Kim, Michelle, Yolanda and Pam (now in Division 1).  Heidi and all the aids who were patient when I know she and I expected so much

Tina and all those involved in care team meetings who helped solve issues as they arose

Shawn and others who took the time to talk, smile and laugh with her

Maintenance staff, who on numerous occasions fixed broken chain lights and located new TV remotes when hers was lost

Bruce, who pushed her wheelchair at times and would take time to chat and visit with her and Richard who always said “hi” to her.  You both have no idea how much that meant to her.

It was all of these personal relationships that were developed that kept her spirits up on most days.  Yes, she complained sometimes about the care from a few and meals that she didn’t like, but I will always be grateful for all the angels that made my mother’s life as comfortable and pleasant as it could be away from her home.

Gladys & John Y. and Family

Please forgive me if I failed to thank anyone for their specific involvement with my mom.  Believe me, it was an oversight, as I appreciated ALL of you.

To the staff of Delmar Gardens West:

I am the sister of a resident and I would like to thank all of the staff of Delmar Gardens West for a good meal and a pleasant day on Sunday the ninth. Your staff have their hands full as is and still showed kindness to all who participated in the Father’s Day BBQ. Just wanting all to know you are appreciated.

Kathy

Richard,

You and your staff have done a wonderful job taking care of my mother and father (Doris and Gerald L. during the last five years. Both had difficult physical aliments and your staff always showed great compassion. I will long remember your kindness in arranging a visit for me to see my dad with my daughter right before he died. I believe he had already begun to fade due to COVID at that time, but we did get to tell him we loved him which is a help now that he is gone.

These last few months have been so strange, as I know is true for all the families who have not been able to visit their loved one.

My wife, sister and I are so thankful for all you and the many staff members have done for my parents. Nurse David was a godsend in being able to work with my dad. Jon was a wonderful, caring assistant to both my mom and dad. (And often dealt with my dad’s lack of understanding with amazing grace.)

I left word at the front desk that we appreciated all that was done over the last few days. I was able to talk with Dad’s nurse yesterday and we agreed on a course of meds given that he was in some pain but not responsive. While not there with him (he wouldn’t have known if I was), I was able to participate in the important final decisions about his life. I will be forever grateful.

If you need anything from me as you wrap up Dad’s affairs, let me know. We do not need any of his belongings.

My family would like to make a donation to the holiday fund. Shall I just mail a check to you?

Again thanks for all you have done for my family and for the good work you do every day.

November 2020

My name is JoAnn and I would like to commend the staff that worked with me during my stay at Delmar Gardens West, August thru October 2020.

I would like to start with Bruce.  Bruce was always very welcoming.  He was always there to help whenever I needed him.  Bruce was always very courteous and listened to AND heard my concerns, which were few.  I noticed Bruce in the halls addressing the patients by name, showing genuine concern.  I know from experience that when you are called by name you are shown respect.

I would like to thank each CNA I directly came in contact with daily:  Erica, Angie, Tara, LaVonda, Helen, John, Sheree (I hope I’m not leaving anyone out).  I would like to personally thank John and Sheree for taking excellent care of me.

The CMT’S were a breath of fresh air.  Pamela, Vonda, Fennel not only dispensed my medication, they were always cheerful and had brief upbeat conversations, which I needed to sometimes lift my spirit.

The Therapists were WONDERFUL.  They got me to where I needed to be in order to be discharged.  The entire Therapy staff worked together.  I noticed how each of them were so patient and consistently gave compliments to their patients.  I would like to personally thank Michelle, Ashley, Angela and Kathy.  They really helped me in therapy, and they also encouraged me; I considered them my friends, although they worked me hard in order to get me where I needed to be.

I want to thank the Social Worker, Chelsea, for helping me with anything I needed.  She was a plethora of information.  She not only helped me during my stay there, but she helped me get situated when I returned home; I really appreciate her.

Ashley in Housekeeping was always pleasant, as well.

I would like to thank Denise in Laundry.  Denise was always pleasant, and she helped me keep up with my clothes.

Overall, my stay at Delmar Gardens West was a very pleasant experience.
