Testimonials

Jennifer,

I am Harriet’s niece and I was fortunate to be able to attend a family reunion at Delmar. We were all so impressed with the rooms you let us use and the beautiful surroundings. The table settings with cloth napkins, china, silverware and glassware were lovely. The flowers, the teas and water, everything was so special and the staff that assisted us were so thoughtful.

I appreciate all you do for Aunt Harriet as well as your other residents.

Thanks,

Belinda

The success of the incident involving the fire from a lightning strike at Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett on June 24, 2015, started before the arrival of emergency personnel. It actually started well before the severe weather outbreak that afternoon with the hiring, training, and development of a selfless staff of dedicated, compassionate, and caring staff. These are not qualities that go unnoticed, especially during extreme and demanding circumstances as was the case during the fire and evacuation of the building. With the intense fire in the roof system and heavy smoke conditions throughout the third floor, the quick actions and determination of the staff to assist in the evacuation of the residents to get them out of harms-way gave a great advantage of the first arriving emergency personnel. With the help of the staff in the evacuation process, it allowed part of the fire crews to be utilized to immediately deploy fire attack lines to begin fire attack. This resulted in the fire being contained to the original part of involvement and further minimized risks to residents, staff, and emergency personnel. Additionally this had a significant impact on lessening the total property damage/loss to the structure and personal belongings.  The accomplishments of the staff during this particular incident should make the residents and family feel proud knowing their loved ones are in good hands at Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett.”

Love back at you Jennifer.

I interviewed and researched nearly 20 facilities within 20 miles of my house in Alpharetta. Because of my hotel management experience,  I could tell pretty quickly when a facility was understaffed or poorly managed. Or if there were other issues by randomly “interviewing” different staff members and residents as I would walk through a facility unchaperoned.

I chose Delmar because of your professionalism and readily apparent loving heart for seniors. You set the stage and expectation for excellence for all operations at Delmar of Gwinnett. Your Executive Management expertise resulted in the clean, odor-free halls, roomy apartments, friendly yet focused attitude of the caregivers, 3 levels of care, variety of stimulating activities,  quality & variety of food served by friendly uniformed staff/ linen table cloths and fresh flowers on tables, the well equipped exercise room, computer areas & libraries, extensive well-maintained landscaping & lake, etc. etc. They all told me my 84 & 87 year old parents would be able to enjoy an independent yet well cared for safe, upscale lifestyle.

As you may recall, my Dad had advanced Parkinsons. Miraculously in 2001, a bed opened in your previously fully occupied Skilled Nursing Unit, and he was discharged from North Fulton Hospital directly to your Skilled Nursing Unit.  Hospice was brought in and he peacefully passed away less than a week later, with my Mom Rose sitting by his bedside. PRAISE!

And now 15 years later my mom will be celebrating her 100th birthday with you on May 19th. Without a doubt the years of participating in the full range of mentally and physically stimulating activities you have provided have kept her still Rose. And now for the past 2 years in Assisted Living her needs are being lovingly met by wonderful caregivers like Veronica and Cyprine. I visit just about every other day and can see and feel her sense of security and well being.

Thank you and your team again for letting me have my mommy these additional years.

 Best regards, Pauline H.

I couldn’t be happier with the experience my mother has had living at Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett for the past almost three (3) years.  My mother is only 72 years old, and is living in the skilled nursing side requiring full care.  When she was 68 she was still living in her own home by herself and driving.  Within the course of two years she had a back surgery and then an open heart surgery.  After that she sort of lost her will to be independent and had fallen a couple times which resulted in large fear of walking again.  My sisters and I did everything we could to support and empower my mom to make a full recovery.  I even moved in with her for a while, but she couldn’t seem to become independent again.  She jumped around from multiple rehab places to hospitals to ER rooms and eventually to an assisted living facility in Monroe, GA.  She took another fall at that facility and ended up in rehab again.  One day visiting that rehab facility I found my mom sitting in her own soiled clothes in a wheelchair.  I’m a very patient and kind person, but to see my mother like that  I broke down crying in the hallway and clearly let the management know how disappointed I was.  While she was there, my sister and I visited every single personal care home, assisted living facility and nursing home in Gwinnett County…every single one!  We were very impressed with Delmar Gardens.  At that time they were at full capacity, but the Director had empathy with us and we found a way to get mom transferred to their rehab facility and after finishing her rehab program got mom in a room in the skilled nursing side.  As a 34 year old, it deeply saddens me that my mom, who is only 72 no, is living in a skilled nursing facility.  I hate that we couldn’t come up with a better solution.  HOWEVER, in the past three years that my mom has been living there, she has never once had a complaint about the quality of care.  I recently moved to Nashville, TN, but prior to my move, I visited my mom randomly at least twice a week and would eat lunch or dinner with her and take her on strolls outside and sit by the pond and feed the ducks.  I have never once seen her mistreated, nor have I heard of any other resident being mistreated.  In fact, I have been very surprised by the facts that many of the staff know about my mom’s life.  I can tell that they sit and listen to her.  They know her story, not just what medications she needs, but when she needs to take them. What better than to have people know your story?  Even now that I’m in Nashville, I am afforded the luxury of visiting mom every couple weeks because a lot of my work is still in Atlanta.  I am eternally grateful for Delmar Gardens of Gwinnett and through the multiple conversations I have had with the staff there – Valari, Ruth, Helen, Nikki, etc., I do truly believe they see my mom as family and I know that is the type of care she is receiving.  I have no idea what we would be doing right now if we hadn’t found and been been able to get mom in to a Delmar Gardens.

Jennifer,

Our family wanted to thank your team at Delmar Gardens for providing such excellent service in the care of our mother over the last 4 years. When we moved her into Delmar years ago our family recently was going through such a difficult time dealing with the loss of my father. Your team stepped up and provided above and beyond care to us and our mother in helping her get adjusted to the environment, people, and new surroundings. Each caregiver was wonderful and seemed to take ownership in making my mother comfortable and seeing to her emotional and physical needs. The food prepared for her (and us) at Delmar was excellent along with the serving staff and made our regular visits for Sunday brunch an exciting and very pleasurable experience. Finally, in the weeks leading up to her passing, the med-techs performed with professionalism and compassion as they worked in conjunction with Hospice to make my mother as comfortable as possible. In particular, Tiffany Cooper went above and beyond showing love and care to mom in her final months. Therefore, I would recommend Delmar Gardens in the highest possible manner to anyone seeking assistant living accommodations.

Thanks again from the Morrison family!!!!

Good morning Jennifer,

I would like to start out by expressing my appreciation to you and your team for extending your hospitality last week at Delmar Gardens for Business After Hours.

You went above and beyond to provide every detail – the shrimp cocktails with the Madmen ice sculpture and delicious carving station, , all of the 60’s style hors d’oeuvres, the Madmen Manhattan jello shooters (yum!) to the whiskey sours, the entertaining “hippie” band, and my personal favorite, all of the staff and attendees wearing tie-dye, flowers, peace signs, bright colors, bare feet & go-go boots. You really created such a memorable atmosphere! It was a pleasure to be a part of something so fun. It’s no wonder your residents are so happy J

Thank you for all that you do for our community.

I look forward to connecting with you again for another Chamber event.

Warm regards,

Hi,

You are very welcome and please know, it is the honest truth and came from the bottom of my heart.  Delmar Gardens is a blessing to our family and the thought of my mother living anywhere else would haunt me for life!

Yes, most definitely post my letter in the newsletter and/or on the website.  Also, feel free to use my name as a reference to a family who may be considering DG for their loved one.  It was by talking with Pat P (Joyce’s daughter) and Mickey & Lynn R, all friends of mine from Sugarloaf Country Club both of whose mothers lived in DG but have since passed away that sold me even before I ever had the “need” for mom.

I saw Pat today and our Lunch/Bible Study and we both asked each other about our “moms.”

I am so glad the staff liked it….. just a little something to “boost them up!”

Hugs~

April K

P.S.  See you at Easter….. just look for the wine on our table!  😎
