Kirkwood, MO – On Sunday, April 14, John Jackson, Executive Chef at Garden Villas Retirement and Assisted Living Community, received the Shepherd’s Center 2019 Chef Wars Award for Best Entree. A panel of five judges unanimously selected Jackson’s Beef Tenderloin Pho as the winning entrée. The Shepherd’s Center of Webster-Kirkwood is part of a national network helping older adults to find enrichment, maintain independence and stay socially active. Since 2015, Chef Wars has showcased some of the finest master chefs from the most prestigious senior living communities in the area. The event has grown to become a major fundraiser for the Shepard’s Center of Webster-Kirkwood continually selling out with over 300 guests in attendance. This year marks the first appearance by Garden Villas Retirement and Assisted Living community, located at 13590 South Outer 40 Road in Town and Country.

As an accomplished and highly tenured chef of 28 years with Garden Villas, Jackson’s attention to detail is at the forefront with every dish he creates. Jackson’s winning Beef Tenderloin Pho was complete with julienne Asian vegetables, toasted black and blonde sesame seeds and fresh chive, followed by an equally compelling unique dessert of a creamy amaretto cheese sphere on toasted almond sand with apricot preserves, strawberry drizzle, whipped cream and edible macro flowers. Jackson continues to fine tune his skills to match his high level of creativity to ensure the residents of Garden Villas receive the very best dining experience.

Jackson served on the Le Cordon Bleu advisory board 2012 thru 2013. He also received several awards including an Award of Excellence from Premier, a leader in healthcare nutrition improvement, for his creation of a macaroni and cheese stuffed potato topped with salmon. “When my team and I were preparing the food for the Chef War, I told them whether we win or lose, our determination in giving it all we have is a win for us,” stated Jackson. “The feeling of competing for Delmar Gardens is the most wonderful thing for us. I give thanks to Chef Maynard Davis at Delmar Gardens of Meramec Valley and Chef Matthew Santos here at Garden Villas for their assistance for Chef Wars.” Jackson concluded.
